PASSWORD MAINTENANCE
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ENABLE/DISABLE PASSWORD MAINTENANCE
1 Before any password may be entered or changed, PASSWORD MAINTENANCE must
be ENABLED. From the DOS BOSS MAIN MENU, depress the W Key to load the
UTILITIES MODULE.

2 Depress the 3 Key to ENABLE PASSWORD MAINTENANCE. If a SYSTEM PASSWORD
has not been entered, menu selection 3 will be redisplayed as DISABLE
PASSWORD MAINTENANCE. If a SYSTEM PASSWORD has been entered, the ENABLE
PASSWORD MAINTENANCE screen will appear.

3 If menu selection 3 is displayed as DISABLE PASSWORD MAINTENANCE, depress
the 3 Key to DISABLE PASSWORD MAINTENANCE. Menu selection 3 will be
redisplayed as ENABLE PASSWORD MAINTENANCE.

SYSTEM PASSWORD
1 Before an ACTIVITY PASSWORD may be entered, a SYSTEM PASSWORD must exist.
To enter a SYSTEM PASSWORD, enable password maintenance and then depress
the 1 Key to select CONFIGURATION.

Enter any 8 characters for a SYSTEM PASSWORD and then depress the Escape
Key to save setup data and exit to the UTILITIES MENU. Upon returning to
the UTILITIES MENU, PASSWORD MAINTENANCE will be DISABLED. KEEP A COPY OF
THIS PASSWORD IN A SAFE PLACE.

2 If a SYSTEM PASSWORD exists, this password must be entered by using the
ENABLE PASSWORD MAINTENANCE screen before menu selection 3 will be
redisplayed as DISABLE PASSWORD MAINTENANCE.
3 If a SYSTEM PASSWORD exists, this password will also serve as the ACTIVITY
PASSWORD for CONFIGURATION and PASSWORD MAINTENANCE. This password must
be entered before the CONFIGURATION screen will appear unless PASSWORD
MAINTENANCE has been ENABLED.
ACTIVITY PASSWORD
1 ACTIVITY PASSWORDS may be entered for menus and menu activities.
2 After PASSWORD MAINTENANCE has been ENABLED, depress the 4 Key to select
ACTIVITY DEFINITION.

3 After selecting an activity, enter any 8 characters for an ACTIVITY
PASSWORD. Passwords will only be displayed if the cursor is in the
password entry field.

4 Depress the Escape Key to save setup data and exit to the UTILITIES MENU.
Upon returning to the UTILITIES MENU, PASSWORD MAINTENANCE will be
DISABLED.
ESC
DELETING PASSWORDS
1 Any password may be deleted by replacing the current password with 8 blank
spaces. IF THE SYSTEM PASSWORD IS DELETED, ALL ACTIVITY PASSWORDS WILL BE
DISABLED.
PASSWORD USAGE
1 The PASSWORD screen will be displayed for all activities with passwords
other than 8 blank spaces.
PASSWORD CONSIDERATIONS
1 If passwords are not required for your system, a a SYSTEM PASSWORD
beginning with an asterisk (*) should be entered. This will prevent
anyone from locking you out of your own system. Any existing activity
passwords will not be utilized.
2 For added security, the File Attribute command may be used to hide the
following DOS BOSS setup files:
DB5-S001 Menu Data/Options/System Password
DB5-S002 Menu/Activity Passwords
DB5-S005 Billing Rate Table
3 Since passwords will contribute to decreased productivity, they should not
be used unless necessary to protect sensitive data.
4 Improved security may be obtained by using hardware devices.
5 Experienced microcomputer users may bypass passwords by entering DOS.
This may be performed by using DOS files on a diskette to restart the
system. DOS may also be entered by depressing the Break Key while holding
the Control Key during execution of DOS commands or operations.
